Hej! It’s William!

Let’s be honest. When you hear AI is coming to your project or your team, the first thing people say is, “Relax, it will automate the boring stuff.”

Sounds good, right?

Then reality hits. Six months in, everyone is more tired than before, no one remembers the last time they finished work before dinner, and “AI transformation” is just another phrase that makes eyes roll in meetings.

I have lost count of how many workshops I joined where we spent the first hour talking about the future of work, but by the end, we were only worried about surviving the next sprint.

If you work in digital or project management, you have probably heard leaders repeating, “This will free up time,” but you feel your days getting longer, not shorter. And let’s be real, if technology was supposed to help us rest, why is everyone more stressed than ever?

I keep coming back to this contradiction. The more we automate, the more tired our people seem to get.

It’s not just my own experience; I see it when I talk with other project managers in Sweden, Brazil, or even on LinkedIn.

People are burning out, not because the AI is too smart, but because change never stops, and the finish line keeps moving.

The AI Paradox: Why Does Change Make Us More Tired, Not Less?

AI is sold as a way to make life easier, but so far, it mostly creates new pressure.

You don’t just have to deliver, you also have to “adopt,” “upskill,” and “stay agile.” Each week brings a new process, another update, a new dashboard, and a lot of silent questions nobody feels safe to ask.

I have seen people who were once full of energy turn into skeptics, always scanning for the next change that might blow up their routine.

Let me tell you a small story. A friend of mine, working in a PMO, told me about her team after rolling out a new AI-powered workflow.

She said it felt like everyone was always “on call,” even when nothing was urgent. People stopped celebrating small wins.

When a system failed, no one got angry; they just sighed and kept working, eyes a little duller than before.

This, for me, is the true face of AI change fatigue. It’s not drama. It’s a slow, invisible drain.

A Simple Question We Don’t Ask Enough

Why do smart, motivated teams who used to love new tools now feel trapped by “innovation”? Why is it so hard to keep people excited during long transformations? Is this just a tech problem, or is something broken in the way we lead?

I don’t want to give you a fake answer. Instead, I think we need to ask better questions and admit when something is not working.

Maybe the problem is not the tools or even the speed. Maybe the real challenge is psychological.

When you never get a pause, you don’t just get tired, you lose hope that the next big thing will make life easier.

What do you think happens to motivation and team spirit when every project feels like climbing a mountain that keeps growing?

I’m not here to complain. I want us to talk about the real cost of ignoring human energy and focus during AI projects.

If we can name the problem, we can start to fix it. And I believe we need a new kind of leadership, one that knows how to manage energy, not just tasks or deadlines.

This is where our journey starts. In the next part, let’s get into what “change fatigue” really is, why it hits hardest during AI transformations, and how we can recognize the signs before it is too late.

Because nobody wins if the team burns out before the finish line.
